Brown’s Piece, secured for the community — forever
Wotton Community Land Trust Ltd is delighted to announce the successful purchase of Brown’s Piece, a cherished green space on the edge of Wotton-under-Edge. This marks a major milestone in local conservation and community action.
Thanks to your support and generosity Wotton Community Land Trust is now six months into community ownership of Brown’s Piece.
The improved footpath is the most visible change, but we have also carried out tree safety work and are exploring reopening the link path up the hill as well as installing signage and beginning to tackle the Japanese knotweed on the site. We hope you’ve had the chance to visit and see the progress being made.
A big thanks to our volunteers and supporters and the following organisations whose grants have enabled this to happen: Gloucestershire CC, Stroud DC, Friends of the Cotswolds, Cotswold National Landscapes and the Summerfield Charitable Trust.
Check out our video and find out why it was so important for us to Save Brown’s Piece.
Thank you to the very talented Christina Wheeler for creating this.
A special place in the heart of our community
Friends of Brown’s Piece
Brown’s Piece was purchased for £190,000 thanks to the fantastic response to our pledge campaign and a very generous interest-free loan from a local benefactor.
Around £105,000 was raised through pledges, leaving £85,000 to be repaid over the 10-year loan period. However, grants rarely cover land purchase, so we need to raise the remaining £85,000 ourselves.
To help achieve this, we are launching Friends of Brown’s Piece.
